The purpose in short:
- IFMAR is of international benefit and its goals are described in its constitution.
- uniting national bodies of RC racing so to promote international friendship and cooperation
- promoting international standards and common racing formats
- ensuring that international World Championships are independent from any or all prevailing commercial interests.
HISTORY:
After some earlier tentatives to create a body governing world-wide RC racing through recognised official World championships IFMAR was officially inaugurated in 1979.
Mr.Ted. Longshaw from Great Britain was the driving force that lead to the creation and became the first president. The first IFMAR championship was held in 1981.The first event was in 1977, Pomona, followed by Geneva in 1979, both 1/8th IC track. First electric WC was 1982, 1/12th stock and modified)
The founding president retired in 1995 and was followed by Mr. John Grant from Australia.
The seat of IFMAR was then moved from Great Britain to Australia. Where it was registered as an Australian Public Company in 2002. Mr Grant retired in 2005 and Dallas Mathiesen from Sweden was elected as new president.
> As a consequence IFMAR got de-registered in 2006 in Australia. IFMAR now only had a tax number linked to its bank relations. By this fact it became an association of private persons without any legal statute or entity towards justice.
In the meantime, several criminal and terrorist actions shocked the world. Governments, Security and Justice departments started to examine financial and other groupings functioning beyond national borders by creating new laws and obligations. Several inquiries from banks and authorities eventually awakened IFMAR and by the end of 2017 the complete board, led by the president, Dallas Mathiesen(+) concluded that such precarious situation was not sound to stand the future and in fact a threat to its volunteers.
Possible solutions were, for obvious reasons, discretely studied and resulted in an legally registered International Non Profit Association according to governing laws and by laws under Belgian and European rules, IFMAR is legitimated by Royal decree and consequently published by the Belgian Government on the 15th of October 2018.
Making IFMAR compliant to all legal standards is still ongoing, it may take up to two years,(the maximum time allowed by laws, obligations and directives governing International Non-Profit Associations)
These developments will ensure that IFMAR survives well into the future providing RC car racers with the opportunity to participate in IFMAR World Championship events around the world and this up to the expectations of tomorrow.
